Emergency crews have re-opened eastbound lanes of the Broken Arrow Expressway at Interstate 44 as of about 2:15 p.m. Sunday. The lanes were temporarily closed after the cab of a tanker truck caught fire.

"Today we had a tractor trailer rig that had a mechanical malfunction in the engine compartment," said Captain Jim Moseby of the Tulsa Fire Department.

"That led to a fully involved fire of the rig itself."

The truck was carrying a non-flammable herbicide, Moseby said.

The cab of the truck caught fire at about 1 p.m. The driver said the truck's engine started smoking, and he tried to put the fire out himself before calling for help.

The fire was confined to the cab, and there was no leakage of the herbicide, according to Moseby. The driver was able to get out of the cab and was uninjured.

Traffic was diverted on the Broken Arrow Expressway with multiple lanes closed as crews work to clear the scene.
