OKLAHOMA CITY - A Choctaw native is crowed Mrs. Oklahoma. Mrs. Choctaw, Joy Rose Murphy received the honor during a ceremony held in Guthrie, Oklahoma. According to officials with the Mrs. Oklahoma pageant, this official state preliminary competition for Mrs. America celebrates the achievements, poise and personality of Oklahoma's accomplished married women.

Murphy says the honor of being crowned Mrs. Oklahoma is one which she very much has focused her efforts in the past couple years.

"This competition celebrates the intricacies of a balanced, confident woman," said Murphy. "It is an honor and privilege to represent our great state of Oklahoma in the national competition later this year."

Eleven delegates competed for the coveted title and were judged on their communication skills, achievements, poise and appearance. Fifty percent of the overall score went to the interview competition, and twenty-five percent went to fitness and evening wear competitions, respectively.

Murphy will now go on to compete for the coveted title of Mrs. America.

Joy Rose Murphy Bio:

Joy Rose Murphy is married to Glen Murphy, a popular thoroughbred jockey in the Midwest region. Together, they have a one-year old daughter, Noelle Kathleen.

During her reign as Mrs. Oklahoma, Murphy will bring awareness to a non-profit charity, the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund for which she has raised over $50,000 for the cause since her involvement in 2005.

Murphy graduated with honors from Oklahoma City University with a Bachelor of Arts. During her collegiate career, she interned in Washington D.C. with CNN's Wolf Blitzer Reports and Oklahoma City's KFOR-TV. After college, she was a news and sports reporter for the NBC-affiliate in Denison, TX.

Murphy is employed at Remington Park Race Track and Casino in Oklahoma City where she holds the position of Promotions and Sponsorship Manager. She also hosts a nationally-televised simulcast program during the track's live racing seasons.

Murphy is an ambassador for the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Oklahoma Society of Association Executives. She enjoys traveling with her daughter to visit her husband at various race tracks, planning a party and exploring the newest restaurants in town. Her family is a member of St. Philip Neri parish in Midwest City.
