FOI Oklahoma Honors Anthony Shadid

Oklahoma City native and two-time Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Anthony Shadid has been honored by FOI Oklahoma.

Oklahoma City native and two-time Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Anthony Shadid has been honored by FOI Oklahoma.

The organization on Saturday presented its Marian Opala First Amendment Award to Shadid -- who died last month while on assignment for The New York Times. The award is named for the late Marian Opala -- who served 32 years on the Oklahoma Supreme Court.

FOI Oklahoma is a statewide organization that promotes education of the First Amendment and openness in government. It presented the award during its annual Sunshine Week convention in Oklahoma City.

The group also presented its Ben Blackstock Award to Nicholas Harrison, the Sunshine Award to Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes and its Black Hole Award to Edmond City Manager Larry Stevens and the Edmond Police Department.
