Oklahoma State Can't Keep Up With No. 4 Jayhawks

STILLWATER, Oklahoma – Although Keiton Page put up a brilliant individual performance on his much-anticipated senior night, he probably would have traded in all of his stats for a win.

Every time he and the Cowboys made a little run, Kansas would push its lead out again in a 70-58 Jayhawk victory.

Page was impressive as usual, finishing with 29 points, including 7-of-14 shooting from 3-point range.

He faced double teams and smothering defense all night, but every little window of opportunity Page found, he usually ended up knocking down a 3.

Despite the big night, there were two main problems holding the Cowboys and their lone senior back.

Only four Cowboys scored at all in the game, and only two of those four scored in double digits.

Guard Brian Williams backed Keiton Page up with 20 points, but Markel Brown with seven and Cezar Guerrero with two were the only other players to put any points on the board.

The other problem that kept coming back to bite Oklahoma State was its tendency to give up points at the most inopportune times.

Though OSU trailed by 10 to 12 points most of the evening, there were a number of occasions where the Cowboys whittled the lead down to six or eight.

But when those situations came up, Kansas immediately came through with a clutch basket on the other end, halting any momentum for OSU.

The Cowboys allowed the Jayhawks to shoot 52 percent from the field, thanks in large part to the quicker Jayhawks running the floor quickly after almost every OSU miss, resulting in some easy buckets.

OSU jumped out to an early lead in the game thanks to a record-breaking start to the game from Page.

He scored the Cowboys' first six points on two 3-pointers, his 279th and 280th of his career. Those two buckets moved him into a tie and then into sole possession of first place atop the OSU career list for 3-pointers made.

Former Cowboy Randy Rutherford held the record, making 279 from 1992-95 under coach Eddie Sutton.

The Cowboys' brief 10-9 lead was quickly overcome and OSU trailed for the remainder of the game.

Tyshawn Taylor led Kansas, who will be the No. 1 seed in the Big 12 tournament, with 27 points.

OSU (14-16, 7-10 Big 12) has one more regular season game remaining, traveling to Kansas State on March 3. Tip time is set for 12:30 p.m.
