State leaders are backing a new public safety bill.

Under the legislation, grants would be set up for local law enforcement agencies to implement aggressive crime reduction strategies, and supervise of all felons after they're released from prison.

Lawmakers also want try to put in other reforms to control prison growth.

"It gives law enforcement entities and resources necessary to do their jobs. And it ensures that state of Oklahoma has enough space and prison beds to detain the most dangerous criminals among us," House speaker Kris Steele said.

Lawmakers say they conducted rigorous data analyses over the past nine months to develop the plan.
