An Oklahoma City police officer surrendered to authorities Friday after being accused of releasing crucial information during a narcotics investigation in 2010.

Sgt. Christina Cervantes turned herself into the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office Friday morning.

According to the police department, Cervantes came under criminal investigation in 2011 for reportedly releasing information that jeopardized an ongoing narcotics investigation.

Misdemeanor charges against Cervantes have been submitted to the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office in 2011, according to authorities. The case is still under the investigation of the police department's Internal Affairs Unit.
