Security guards and good Samaritans rushed to help a mom Thursday morning when a man with a butcher knife tried to rob her outside a Wal-Mart in Midwest City.
Around 9:30 a.m., the woman left the store at N.E. 23rd Street and Douglas. She put her 4-year-old child in a car seat then began loading her groceries into her car.
Police say that's when a man with a butcher knife approached her, and demanded her cell phone and car keys. The woman gave the suspect her phone, but threw her car keys. The suspect managed to grab the keys. He got in the car and attempted to start it but couldn't because of a security device on the vehicle.
The woman began screaming, and Wal-Mart security guards and other customers ran to help. Police say the suspect then jumped out of the car and pulled a second knife from his pocket. He waved both weapons at the crowd then ran away.
A Midwest City police officer found the suspect, George Don McGuire, across the street and arrested him. McGuire is now being held at the Midwest City jail.
No one was hurt during the attempted robbery.
