In 2004, Joseph McClure said Jimmy Massey moved to Oklahoma. That's when the two became best friend. McClure let Massey move in with him and his wife and children.

"He's lived with my family a total of four to five years," said McClure.

He said during that time Massey battled a drug addiction, but was never violent.

McClure finds it hard to believe Massey is capable of the crimes he is accused of committing. An arrest affidavit states Massey blindfolded and kidnapped a woman, then forced her to watch the torture and dismemberment of Carina Saunders.

"It doesn't fit Jimmy's personality at all. Jimmy has always been the first one to jump to the protection of a female," said McClure.

He has visited Massey twice in jail, since he was first arrested on drug complaints in November.

McClure asked him about the Saunders connection, but said Massey was hesitant to talk. He did tell him, he feared for his life if he got out of jail.

One of the reasons is McClure thinks his friend was forced into the violence.

"I know better. I know in my mind and I know in my heart, it's not Jimmy."

McClure plans to visit Massey again on Christmas Day.
