OKLAHOMA CITY – OKC and the Chesapeake Energy Arena will be hosting the 2014 Big 12 women's basketball tournament, the league announced Wednesday.

Kansas City was originally scheduled to host the women's tournament through 2013, but the league decided it would cut that stint short. The women's tournament will take place in Dallas in 2013 before heading to OKC the following year.

The men's and women's tournament had previously been held in the same city before the change. The men will remain at Sprint Center in Kansas City in 2013 and 2014.

Beginning in 2013, the women's tournament will take place Friday through Monday before the men's tournament, which takes place on a Wednesday through Sunday.

Big 12 officials, including interim commissioner Chuck Neinas, said the move has nothing to do with Missouri leaving the Big 12 conference, but rather the women's tournament standing as its own entity.
