OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a suspect involved in an auto-pedestrian accident in Del City jumped off a bridge in Oklahoma City in an attempt to escape from authorizes.

The suspect, 43-year-old Eugene Overton, was hit by a car Thursday morning. As Del City police investigated the accident, they discovered the man was wanted on warrants out of Colorado. He was taken into custody.

An EMSA ambulance was called to take the suspect to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. A Del City police officer followed the ambulance. Somehow, the suspect escaped from the EMSA unit and ran onto the road. He jumped off a bridge on Interstate 40 near the Fort Smith junction, falling several feet.

After a short search, troopers found the man hiding in the bushes. OHP says he may have broken his hip and arm when he jumped from the bridge. He was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. This time, an officer rode inside the EMSA unit.
