OKLAHOMA CITY -- There's a nationwide trend to push Christmas merchandise out early this year, but here in Oklahoma, it's been going on for years.

Mike Bojarski's a manager at Hobby Lobby at NW Expressway and Rockwell in Oklahoma City, where Santa Claus has been on the shelves for at least three months.

"We start Christmas on June 1st," said Bojarski.  "The reason why we do that is because we are a craft store."

A large portion of Hobby Lobby's clientele is crafters, and they need their supplies early in order to make creations for all the fall festivals that happen September through November.  The practice has been in place at Hobby Lobby for almost 20 years, but still catches some shoppers by surprise according to Bojarski.

"We have people taken aback every day when they see it," Bojarski said.  "You're just not used to seeing Christmas decorations out before the Fourth of  July."

The national push for early Christmas shopping is a move to buoy sagging retail sales.  Some department stores have plans to put out Christmas merchandise as early as next week.

For shoppers like Kristi Potts, the early yuletide is nothing shocking.  Rather, she sees it as a convenience.

"I bought something a couple weeks ago," Potts said.  "And I'm back."
