COAL COUNTY, Oklahoma – A two-car collision in Coal County has claimed the life of a Plano, Texas man and critically injured a Clarita, Oklahoma man Monday afternoon, Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

This happened at 4:25 p.m., on State Highway 48 at Hardwood Road, about two miles south of Clarita in Coal County. Sixty-eight-year-old David R. Pepple was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries suffered in the crash.

Forty-year-old Terry Don Hobbie was transported by Air Ambulance to OU Medical Center and listed in critical condition.

According to the accident report, the two cars involved in the collision were both southbound on S.H. 48. A 2010 Nissan Sedan driven by Pepple stopped for a flag man at a construction zone, when a 2002 Dodge Pickup driven by Hobbie failed to stop and struck Pepple's car.

Troopers say Hobbie was then thrown out of his pickup. He was not wearing a seatbelt. However, Pepple was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
