NORMAN, Oklahoma – A high-speed police pursuit that started in Norman ended up with the arrest of a naked man, who was driving a stolen Mercedes at the time. Norman Police Department reported Saturday afternoon.

According to police, the car caught on fire during the pursuit. Oklahoma City Fire Department was called in to extinguish the flames.

The incident happened at around 11 a.m. Norman police responded to a call of a naked man driving a black Mercedes, who was stopped on the roadway in the area of Interstate Drive West and Tecumseh Road.

As police arrived, they attempted to check the welfare of the man before he fled in the vehicle, leading the police on a pursuit south on Interstate Drive. According to police, the man refused to yield to multiple officers and ultimately traveled onto Interstate 35 southbound.

Police say the man continued at a high rate of speed until he traveled just north of I-35 and Main Street, where he stopped in the median and attempted to flee the vehicle.

Police officers were able to capture the man and take him into custody. Norman EMS Stat provided medical aid to the man after he was captured.

Police say the incident resulted in delayed traffic on both north and south bound I-35. The man was taken to Norman Regional Hospital where he was examined. He was later transported to the Cleveland County Detention Center on district charges of possession of a stolen auto, attempting to elude, driving under the influence of intoxicants –drugs (DUID), and driving without a license.
