The Debt: Thrilling, Drama-Filled Flick

OKLAHOMA CITY – I LOVE spy thrillers! I love the tension that keeps you on the edge of your seat; the will-they-complete-their-mission worries; the nail-biting "who's that lurking in the dark?" moments. I love all of it, and The Debt has every single one of those awesome elements.

The movie opens in 1997. The daughter of retired Israeli secret agent Rachel (the incredible Helen Mirren) has written a book about how her mother and father, Stephan (played by Tom Wilkinson), helped take out a Nazi war criminal with the help of a third colleague, David (Ciaran Hinds).

That's right, they were Nazi hunters! Love it! But hold up, folks. All is not as it seems. We learn the real story when the movie takes us back to 1967 when young Rachel, Stephan and David (played by Jessica Chastain, Marton Csokas and Sam Worthington) track down the man known as the Butcher of Birkenau in East Berlin.

Do you like danger, suspense and surprises in your movies? Of course you do. The Debt lags in a few places, but quickly picks up the pace again. Of course, Helen Mirren is fabulous because that's how she rolls in every movie. You will also thoroughly enjoy Jessica Chastain as Young Rachel. She may look familiar because she's starring in another summer hit, The Help (Celia Foote, anyone?).

And prepare to be surprised by Sam Worthington. He's well known as action-movie eye candy (Clash of the Titans, Avatar, Terminator: Salvation), but he's really good in this movie. Okay, yes, I'm not quite sure what accent he's trying to do, but his acting is solid.

Bottom line: Go see it. I give it 3.5 movie candies.
