Kellen Jones Eligible To Play For Sooners

Oklahoma's newest transfer is now officially eligible to play for the Sooners this season.

NORMAN, Oklahoma– The newest addition to Oklahoma's football team is officially eligible to play this season for the Sooners.

Head coach Bob Stoops announced Tuesday that Kellen Jones, a 6-1, 223-pound linebacker, who transferred from Michigan to Oklahoma and is eligible to play for the Sooners this season.

"We are excited to add Kellen to our program," said OU Head Coach Bob Stoops. "Obviously he's in a learning phase right now, but he has very good physical skill and is someone who can contribute to our program."

The freshman from Houston originally signed with Michigan in February but recently changed his mind and decided to transfer to OU.

During his senior season at St. Pius X High School he amassed 110 tackles, with 32 for loss and eight sacks. He also forced three fumbles and recovered two in 11 games. He also carried a 3.32 grade point average while in high school and plans to major in mathematics.

Jones was highly recruited out of high school, receiving scholarship offers from more than 20 schools. Rivals.com lists him as the nation's No. 29 inside linebacker.

Jones is already with the football team and now that he has been cleared, he can begin practice.

Oklahoma opens the season Sept. 3 against the University of Tulsa at 7 p.m.
