NORMAN, Oklahoma – The Oklahoma Sooners football squad, eager to get the season started, took the field for its first practice Thursday.

OU took the field at 6:45 a.m. in order to escape the high temperate that continue across Oklahoma.

The Sooners dressed in shorts, jerseys, cleats and helmets ran through drills and formations until about 9 a.m.

Temperatures during the first practice held steady in the mid 80's, a much cooler atmosphere for practice than in the afternoon when its forecast to be at least 108 degrees.

ESPN All-Access was on the field with the Sooners today shooting a special feature that will air Aug. 23 on ESPN.

The Sooners continue practice through the end of this week and this weekend.

Saturday is the annual autograph session at Meet the Sooners day, which has also changed locations to help combat the excessive heat expected.

Two-a-days begin Aug. 9 and continue through Aug. 17 with the university starting classes Aug. 22.

Tune in to News9 at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. for all the latest reports from the first day of practice.
