EDMOND, Oklahma -- Prescription drugs can be dangerous if they end up in the hands of someone who doesn't need them. If you live in Edmond, you now have a safe place to drop off your prescription drugs you no longer need or want in your medicine cabinet.

Located within the Edmond Police Department, you can drop the medication into a permanent drop box. The drop box looks like a white mailbox and is in the lobby of the Police Department.

The drop box was recently installed at the Edmond Police Department by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics (OBN) and OBN agents will periodically empty the drop box and be in charge of safely disposing of the drugs.

OBN purchased the drug disposal boxes after a very successful "take-back" day where tons of prescription drugs were turned over by the public at temporary locations. These new boxes are giving residents a permanent solution to ridding their homes of old medication.

OBN is installing the drug disposable boxes in every county in Oklahoma.

You can not drop off syringes, liquids, chemicals or inhalers, but all other prescription medicines can be dropped in the box.

According to police, prescription drugs are the most abused drug in Edmond. Officers encourage everyone to periodically go through their medicine cabinets and make dropping the drugs off in the drop box at the Edmond Police Department part of their household cleaning routine.
