Shawnee Solider Up For 'Soldier Of The Year' Award

A Shawnee soldier will compete for the Army Soldier of the Year Award.

SHAWNEE, Oklahoma -- A Shawnee soldier will compete for the Army Soldier of the Year Award.

Specialist Matthew Thornton enlisted in October of 2006 and served two tours of duty in Afghanistan.

He earned a medal during his first tour, and was named Fort Jackson's Soldier of the Year earlier this month.

Thornton plans to gain his Nurse Anesthetist Degree after he finishes his service.
