Lemonade Stand Sweet Business For Hungry Oklahoma Kids

MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- Nine-year-old Luke Perry's lemonade stand isn't your typical summer business. He wants to profit, just not keep it the money.

"I was wanting to get some money for myself then my mom came up with the Food Bank idea," Luke Perry said.

That idea: to give all the money from his lemonade sales to the Regional Food Bank's Food for Kids program.

"It actually makes me feel really good because I've heard the kids, they were digging in the trash," Luke said. "I actually feel kind of bad."

Then one of his friends, Collier, heard about it.

"I didn't want him to feel lonely," Collier said. "I feel good of myself because I'm glad I'm helping the hungry children."

Luke's dad, Mike, couldn't be prouder.

"Oh that makes a dad's heart kind of warm up inside," Mike said.

And customers appreciate their hard work.

"We did get a $20 bill from a girl," said Luke. "She didn't want anything. She just said we were being cute."

"He comes in everyday when he's through selling for the day," said Mike. "He can't wait to count his money."

In the first week alone, Luke raised $240. He's already taken it to the Food Bank. And he's not finished yet. He will be open most afternoons through the summer at Country Club Terrace and Belaire Drive in Midwest City.
