Vacated USC Title Won't Go to OU

LOS ANGELES – The BCS stripped the University of Southern California of its 2004 national title on Monday, but that doesn't result in any tangible benefits for OU.

BCS officials hit USC with heavy sanctions for rules violations committed during 2004 and 2005.

The Trojans beat the Sooners 55-19 in the Orange Bowl in 2004 to win the national championship.

That title, however, will not go to Oklahoma.

Instead, the BCS will simply leave that season without an official BCS champion.

The Associated Press announced that USC would keep the 2004 AP title for that season, while the Football Writers Association of America stripped the Trojans of their FWAA Crown.

USC is also forced to vacate its appearance in the 2006 Rose Bowl against Texas.

The school has not announced whether it would return the trophy in the same manner as Reggie Bush's Heisman trophy, but athletic director Pat Haden did release the following statement:

"This was not an expected outcome. We will comply with all requirements mandated by the result of this BCS vote."
