OKLAHOMA CITY -- One of Oklahoma County's finest, four-legged deputies has died.
K-9 deputy Ajo passed away Saturday, June 4, after a short illness. Ajo had recently retired from the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office after a nine-year career.
Ajo made headlines in December 2005 after he jumped off an Interstate 35 bridge while chasing a suspect. The suspect died from the nearly three-story fall. Ajo suffered serious injuries, but recovered and went on to be an impressive asset to the sheriff's office. In March 2011, Ajo helped apprehend three suspects in Bethany and Nichol's Hills.
"He was a hardworking, unwavering, dedicated K-9 deputy", said Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel. "Ajo was an important team member to the OCSO, and he will be missed."
Funeral services for Ajo are scheduled for June 7, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at The Precious Pet Cemetery located at 5510 Spencer Road, Spencer, Oklahoma.
