Former Wayne County Police Chief Charged With Embezzlement

MCCLAIN COUNTY, Oklahoma -- Charges were filed Wednesday morning against former Wayne Police Chief Ron Reagan.

Reagan faces six counts of embezzlement of state property and six counts of false accounts by a police officer.

Court papers state Reagan used DHS funds allocated for child abuse training for his own use. Prosecutors said Reagan used the money to pay for a family trip to the Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, TX. He took $839 to buy Dallas Cowboys football tickets and used $1,732.00 to buy furniture for his house.

Prosecutors said Reagan falsified expenditure reports to cover up for the misappropriation of funds.

Court papers also stated Reagan admitted to using the DHS credit card to make the purchases, but he said he felt the purchases were considered part of his salary.

Court documents state Reagan was falsifying documents as far back as 2006.

A DHS worker told investigators she never looked at funds or the records, but she did do an onsite visit one time a year.

"Typically the people who oversee these accounts are people who work in law enforcement agencies or the District Attorney's office, and we expect these people to be relatively trustworthy with these funds," said Sheree Powell, with the Oklahoma DHS.

The Wayne City Council voted Tuesday night to terminate Reagan without pay or benefits.

Reagan is scheduled to make his first appearance on Friday at 9 a.m.
