NORMAN, Oklahoma – The most wanted suspect in Cleveland County, a fugitive who was wanted for rape, has been captured.

"This should be a lesson to any fugitive from justice from Cleveland County. You may run for a while, but just keeping looking over your shoulder. My people are there," said Sheriff Joe Lester.

Lonnie Correll has been running from law enforcement since charges were filed in 2009 for multiple counts of rape and rape by instrumentation, including two counts of first-degree rape involving an 11-year-old girl.

Correll had been spotted in California, Arizona and Texas during the last two years, but had eluded authorities.

Sheriff Lester said a Cleveland County Deputy assigned to the U.S. Marshal's Metro Fugitive Squad, had tracked Lonnie Correll to the Henderson, Nevada area within the last two months. Lester said the deputy had arranged for Correll to be aired on "America's Most Wanted" which Saturday, April 2.

"Calls generated from the television show resulted in my deputy obtaining a possible location for Correll, and he worked with Henderson police detectives to make the capture," Lester said.

Correll was taken into custody without incident Tuesday. He had been living with his father in Henderson.
