CROMWELL, Oklahoma -- Department of Environmental Quality crews are working around the clock to clean up an oil spill just south of Cromwell.
The spill occurred Tuesday after oil began to leak out of a Sunoco oil tank and spilled into a nearby creek. The oil has flowed about half a mile downstream so far and crews are working quickly using booms to stop the spill from spreading farther.
Officials said about 25 percent of the oil had been cleaned up as of Wednesday night and about 710 barrels of oil have been recovered. Crews said they expect the bulk of the cleanup should be completed by Saturday or Sunday.
