OKLAHOMA CITY -- Will Rogers World Airport has reopened after being closed Tuesday for about 20 hours from the severe winter storm that slammed Oklahoma.
Due to previous cancellations by the airlines, no commercial flights are scheduled to arrive tonight or between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. Thursday morning. The first commercial arrival is expected at about 8 a.m. According to airport spokeswoman Karen Carney, the first commercial flight departed at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday.
An airport spokesperson said Tuesday crews tried for hours to keep runways clear, but heavy snow, strong winds and low visibility made the task impossible. All commercial flights were canceled and passengers were told not to bother coming to the airport until it was reopened.
Airlines are encouraging passengers to rebook flights for later in the week, or even next week, because the severe weather is affecting airlines across the country. Some airlines are even waiving change fees.
To change a reservation, travelers need to contact the airline's reservations number or check the website.
