CASHION, Oklahoma -- More than a dozen families in Cashion are desperately searching for answers and alternatives after learning their natural gas service will be shut off.

Residents received a letter last week informing them the gas lines that currently serve their households do not belong to the city. They belong to DCP Midstream, a private company that is planning on shutting them down because they're aging. The company told homeowners they'll need to explore other options.

Residents said they're shocked because their losing their gas service, and anxious because they have no idea when it will happen.

"They have not advised of an exact date the lines will be taken out of service, but we assume it will be soon," resident Sheila Palmer said.

"If it's going to be four months, tell everybody that it's four months. If it's going to be tomorrow, I think you should be able to tell everybody it's tomorrow," Palmer's husband Ron said.

Von McCallum with DCP Midstream said no one's service will be immediately cut off. He said the company is still in the planning stages, and speaking with ONG about possible providing gas service. McCallum said converting to propane gas may also be an option for residents.

"It will take some time, but we'll guarantee that we'll keep the gas flowing until a good solution is in place," McCallum said.
