My 2 Cents: Laws For Distracted Walkers, Runners

I think I'm going to ask my Legislator to propose a new law. I want motorists to be required to drive with at least one window down the whole time, and the radio turned down very low if on at all, so they can hear what's going on all around them. Ridiculous right?

I'd say the same about a couple of laws being proposed to reduce distracted-- wait for it-- distracted walkers and runners.

Arkansas wants to ban pedestrians from wearing headphones or ear buds in both ears while on or near a street-- you could wear one but you need to be able to hear out of the other ear.

That's why I ask, shouldn't you be required to have one window down if you're driving?

New York wants to make it a $100 dollar offense to use an electronic device while walking in a crosswalk.

Have I just missed it? Has there been a rash of texting pedestrians being mowed down suddenly, or iPod wearing joggers clogging up traffic?

Total overkill.

We don't need the government trying to protect us from every eventuality in life. We're seeing too much of this politicians coming up with solutions looking for problems.
