New Planetarium Dome To Be Installed At Jenks School

JENKS, Oklahoma -- Jenks Public Schools known for breaking new ground is once again proving that to be true with a major architectural feature that's being added to the new Jenks High School Math and Science Building - a geodesic dome.

The dome will be installed on the new building Friday. The dome reaches an elevation of 70 feet above the entry level. It will be one of the highest points on campus and in Jenks, according to Manhattan Construction Company.

The dome will house a planetarium.

The Jenks dome is about 66 feet in diameter, almost 26 feet tall and weighs 10,300 pounds. The dome is being assembled on the ground, and a 250 ton crane will be brought in to hoist the dome into its final location Friday.

The Jenks Math and Science Building is a new 90,000 square-foot facility with eight math classrooms and 14 science classrooms/labs.

The three-story building includes four science prep rooms with fume hoods and water purification systems, four 50-foot wind turbines tied to the building's electrical grid, and geothermal energy to heat and cool the building.
