OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City police are investigating a shooting that happened across the street from Capitol Hill High School Friday afternoon.

According to police, the fight had been lingering with students at the high school for some time and the neighborhood is fed up with the fighting.

A witness at the scene said she was picking up her daughter from school and saw a large group of kids gathered at the Shell gas station at S.W. 36 Street and Walker Avenue. Parent Connie Hunter said it appeared there may have been some kind of altercation. She said the kids were throwing gang signs and she heard at least 10 shots fired.

"I'm fearful for my girls, because my girls go to Capitol Hill High School. There's other young ladies, other kids that go to this school that they're afraid themselves," said Hunter.

Police took several teenagers into custody. Fortunately no one was injured by gunfire.

"What happened was there's been a little bit of tension brewing between two groups of students and then it developed into a physical confrontation," said Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Corey Nooner.

One teen is in stable condition at a local hospital after being hit by a car at the scene. It is unclear if the teenager was hit intentionally, but a witness at the scene said he appeared to be fleeing from gunfire when he was hit by the vehicle. Police are still trying to determine who hit the student with their car.
