EDMOND, Oklahoma -- An Edmond man is behind bars after taking police on a wild chase late Tuesday night.

Police said Paul Lee drove his vehicle right at officers who then opened fire. Officers said Lee crashed into a utility pole while trying to speed away from police. When an officer pulled up behind him, Lee backed his car up, right over the cop car. That's when the officer jumped out of his car and fired at Lee.

The chase first started in Oklahoma City with what was supposed to be a routine traffic stop, but police said Lee sped off and took them on a high-speed chase crossing into Edmond.

Officers said after Lee crashed on 2nd Street he kept going before finally ditching his vehicle at N.W. 178 Street and Portland Avenue. Police said that's when he ran on foot before officers caught up with him and took him into custody.

The chase began at about 10:35 and ended about seven minutes later.

The officer whose car got backed over is OK. Lee suffered only minor injuries.

Lee will face charges of eluding police, assault and battery on an officer, and several traffic complaints.
