OKLAHOMA CITY -- A metro family targeted by thieves is getting a big boost thanks to Oklahoma's generosity.

Kathleen Carter is a struggling single mom of two children, with one on the way, and she said someone broke into her Oklahoma City apartment last week and took off with most of their clothes, food, and Christmas gifts. She got the gifts and toys from the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program.

The 22-year-old mom said after her story aired on News 9 Monday night, she's received dozens of calls from people across Oklahoma wanting to help.

"We have one gentleman who wants to take us on a shopping spree," said Carter.

Pastor Wendell Prim and his wife, Servrina, are from God's Convent Church in Kingfisher and they showed up at Carter's apartment with a $1,000 check Tuesday evening.

"We saw this on the news and we knew we had to do something about this," said Pastor Prim.

The money from the church is also possible from C Bar C Transport in Kingfisher. Food, clothes, toys and other items are being donated by people from all over.

"This is what Oklahoma is all about. I can't thank you all enough," said Angela Bennett, the children's grandmother.

The family friend, Sheli Stiles, who alerted News 9 to the family and what happened to them said she's overwhelmed with the response.
