OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma's unemployment picture is looking a little bleaker. Congress had until Tuesday, Nov. 30 to extend the federal unemployment benefits, but did not act.
The deadline has already been reset twice this year. A spokesperson for the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission is doubtful lawmakers will extend the deadline again.
It is estimated, about 2,000 Oklahomans a week will run out of unemployment benefits due to the deadline.
The OESC is encouraging Oklahomans to still apply for federal benefits. If lawmakers extend the benefits, unemployed workers will be eligible to receive money and would be paid retroactive from December 31, 2010.
