Unique Tulsa Home Hits The Auction Block

TULSA, Oklahoma -- A unique piece of Tulsa architecture went up for bid Thursday.

It's a home overlooking the campus of Oral Roberts University. And like the buildings at ORU, it also features futuristic architecture sure to turn heads. It's one of the most unique homes in Tulsa.

Frank Wallace is the architect and owner.

"You have to look at it. I can't describe it," he said.

After 30 years in the 5,600 square foot home, it became too much work to keep up for Wallace who just turned 87 years old. He's auctioning it off to the highest bidder.

"You've got to be a free thinker to like this house," Wallace said.

Wallace's free thinking architectural style is on display all over the four bedroom house: From the intricate stone work, to the golden fixtures, sweeping hallways and even an indoor pool with a bridge.

"No one that likes colonial will want this house," Wallace said. "Or Georgian or anything like that."

"It is so enormous, but yet so cozy all at the same time," Maxine Roby, Mr Ed's Auction Company, said.

Maxine Roby is with the auction company handling the sale. She says the home is truly one of a kind, and so is its creator.

"I think that it's a hidden treasure," she said. "I think that few people know about it."

Another great feature is the view of the ORU campus. If you think the style of the home looks familiar, you're right. Wallace also designed 23 buildings on the Oral Roberts campus.

"That's my life's work down there," he said.

Wallace hates to part with a home he created and enjoyed for so many years, but he's moving to a retirement center.

"If you have a small house, you know how much trouble they are. The big one is just that much more trouble," he said.

He's hopeful it will be a happy home for someone else too; someone with just the right tastes.

We may never know who bought the house. Wallace has 48 hours to accept or reject the highest offer.
