OKLAHOMA CITY – An event at the Regional Food Bank put on by Oklahoma City's Jewish community ended with great success. As a result, one member of the community is being honored with a nomination for the good work done.

The Taking A Bite Out Of Hunger event resulted in the packing of 35,000 pounds of food, or 27,000 meals. The Jewish community also pledged to become partners in financially supporting the Food Bank.

Following the event, Michael Pollack MD, local radiologist and volunteer coordinator, was nominated for an international award in the prestigious Jewish Community Heroes Competition, which will be presented before tens of thousands of attendees at this year's Jewish Federations of North America General Assembly, in New Orleans in November.

Pollack was nominated for this award by another community leader.

By winning the award, Pollack hopes to accomplish several goals including:

• Raise national awareness of the problem of Hunger

• Help our Regional Food Bank and food banks around the country

• Make the "core idea" of the TABOOH project – Jewish community wide volunteering at a food bank over the High Holidays --something that Jewish communities around the country incorporate into their annual High Holidays observance, in order to

• Promote Jewish unity

• Infuse positive energy, sense of purpose and pride into Jewish life in our city and around the country.

• Help to put OKC's small but very dynamic and vibrant Jewish community on the national radar map, in order to help it grow and bring more people to work and raise families here.

Cast your vote for Pollack.

Voting ends this Friday at 5 p.m. Voters can cast a vote up to twice a day.
