OKLAHOMA CITY -- An apartment fire on the northwest side of Oklahoma City has left more than a dozen people out of their homes this morning.

Volunteers with the Red Cross have helped residents at the Ridgeview Apartments in the 7800 block of Lyrewood Lane find temporary places to stay.

The fire started at about 1 a.m. Firefighters said the fire accelerated really quickly. One resident said she left to walk across the street to a convenience store. And when she got back, an entire section of the building was on fire.

Firefighters said the fact it spread so quickly makes it suspicious. Investigators will have to go through the building to try to determine what happened and find an exact cause.

"It had to have been somebody to start it cause that window is closed and boarded up so it had to be somebody that started that fire," an apartment resident said.

Firefighters said before they got to the scene, at least two people jumped out of second story windows. The flames moved so fast firefighters said it was impossible for some to escape without firefighters risking their lives to go in and get them.

One of the people hurt from jumped out of a second story window suffered some minor cuts and bruises.
