OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City Community College has unveiled a new iPhone application for students, faculty and staff that includes a campus GPS.

The OCCC iPhone app has college news, upcoming events, access the campus map and the daily forecast. It also includes access to a campus phone directory, the college's YouTube and Twitter and other helpful resources.

"It may not be the most useful feature, but one of the coolest things about the new iPhone app is the campus map," said John Richardson, OCCC Online Marketing Coordinator. "Through GPS, students can be assisted in navigating around campus. They can also locate their exact position on campus via GPS technology."

"The most useful component will probably be the campus news or the event tab," Richardson added. "Student are always interested in what's going on on campus."

iPhone users can find the OCCC iPhone App in the Apple iTunes store. Search for "OCCC" and install it for free.

OCCC enlisted the help of an Oklahoma company that is gaining a reputation for quality apps in the higher education industry. Straxis Technology, located in Tulsa, has developed iPhone apps for West Point, the University of Kansas, Boston College and several others. OCCC is the first community college to have an app developed by Straxis.
