OKLAHOMA CITY -- Brittany Novotny is a transgendered candidate who is taking on incumbent Republican Sally Kern in House District 84. She is facing some personal and derogatory comments from some of Kern's supporters.

Sally Kern and Brittany Novotny have said publicly that this race should be about the issues and only the issues, but Novotny said she has proof that contradicts what Kern has said.

An e-mail from Kern supporter Charlie Meadows, the founder and Chairman of the Oklahoma Conservative Political Action Committee or OK-PAC, takes direct aim at House District 84 candidate Novotny, an openly transgendered candidate. Meadows referred to Novotny as a "confused it" in the e-mail.

Read the full e-mail on Brittany Novotny's campaign website.

"What really has happened is she has mutilated her body," Meadows said.

Meadows said he wrote the e-mail to get the word out to his organization that Novotny was in California trying to raise money from the homosexual community for her race in Oklahoma.

"I want our members to understand if the homosexual community outside the state of Oklahoma begins to pour tens, maybe hundreds of thousands of dollars into Brittany's campaign, then we need to step up and make sure Sally has the funds to get her message across," Meadows said.

While Sally Kern welcomes that support, she said on her website she does not welcome the derogatory comments.

"I've repeatedly asked my supporters, or anyone, to please refrain from saying any derogatory comments or insulting remarks," said Representative Sally Kern.

But Novotny said Kern contradicted herself at a conservative event in August.

"This year in the 2010 election I have a really interesting race. I have an individual who was born a man, he's had a sex change operation and now considers himself to be a woman. So if you live in my district and know anybody who does, please get the word out," Kern said at the Wake Up America! Conference.

"She didn't tell her supports 'Don't say anything about my opponent. Let's talk issues.' She said 'Go get the word out because I can't do it, if I do it looks like I'm smearing," said Novotny.

Meadows and Kern consider themselves close friends and Meadows said OK-PAC has contributed $1,500 to Kern's campaign.
