TECUMSEH, Oklahoma -- Two men have been arrested after Pottawatomie County Sheriff's deputies were led on a high-speed pursuit following a crime spree that began in Konawa Tuesday.

According to Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Jessica Brown, the incidents began with the report of a beating and a shooting in Seminole County. Brown said two suspects walked past the Oklahoma Family Medical Center in Konawa and car jacked a man. Ruben Brewer was fighting back when a good Samaritan, Jimmy Cunningham, tried to intervene. Brewer knocked the gun out of one of the robber's hand causing it to discharge hitting Cunningham in the stomach.

"I'm sick of criminals getting away with whatever they want. I'm glad I stood up for myself and would do it again," Brewer said.

The two suspects, Bobby Cardenas and Jason Masieo, left the scene with Brewer's truck.

"I was scared. I couldn't believe someone could be so cruel," said Cheryle Cunningham, Jimmy Cunningham's wife.

Brewer and Cunningham were treated and released at a hospital.

Brewer's suffered several cuts and bruises all over his body from the incident. His face was bruised from being kicked in the face, and one of the suspects also bit Brewer in the arm.

Shortly after, the two men drove to Maud where they took an OG&E contractor's vehicle and drove to a QuickStop convenience on the Seminole County side to rob it at gunpoint. The men demanded a woman inside the store give them her car keys and they drove off in her vehicle to a church a mile and a half away. The men then robbed two women standing outside the church at gunpoint and took one of a woman's minivan.

From there, Pottawatomie County deputies went to intercept the stolen church van and a chase ensued. Pottawatomie County Sheriff Mike Booth said the men tried to run into the police captain's car head-on, running him off the road. Another deputy then picked up the chase and fired at the fleeing minivan.

The suspects then drove into Tecumseh, where they were accused of robbing Ralph's Pharmacy. After getting into a shootout with the pharmacist, the two split up, with Cardenas carjacking a father and son in Tecumseh and taking their white four-door Oldsmobile. Masieo fled on foot.

A Pottawatomie County deputy pursued Cardenas in the Oldsmobile from Tecumseh into Cleveland County. That's when deputies from Cleveland County were called in to assist.

The chase took place along Highway 9 with deputies chasing Cardenas and throwing down stop sticks to try to stop him, but he kept going. During the chase, Cardenas threw his gun out of the car. Eventually, deputies caught up with him and took him into custody.

Deputies were able to recover the gun a short time after the chase ended.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Tactical Team and their dogs tracked down Masieo at about 3:15 p.m. near an outbuilding just a block and a half from Ralph's Pharmacy. Masieo was unarmed at the time and was taken into custody without incident.

The OSBI is investigating the shooting and assault and battery in Konawa, four carjacking incidents, the convenience store robbery and the pharmacy robbery.

Tecumseh schools were on lockdown for several hours during the crime spree.

Both suspects are being released to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office and booked into the Seminole County jail since that is where this crime spree originated.
