University Of Oklahoma To Close Several Clinics Due To Poor Economy

The economy in crisis has forced the University Of Oklahoma to shut down eight of its health clinics that primarily serve low-income families.

TULSA, OKLAHOMA -- The economy in crisis has forced the University Of Oklahoma to shut down eight of its health clinics that primarily serve low-income families.

A spokesman for OU said it will also start asking some of its patients to pay small co-pay.

The university said it had to make some changes because there are fewer dollars coming in from the state and from donors.

Clinics that will close include:

  • McClure HeadStart
  • Skelly HeadStart
  • Hawthorne Elementary School
  • Robert Frost HeadStart
  • Bixby Brassfield Fifth and Sixth Grade Center
  • Sandy Park Apartments, Tulsa Housing Authority
  • Neighbors Along The Line
  • Family and Children's Services

Clinics that will remain open include:

  • Mark Twain Elementary School
  • Marshall Elementary School
  • Rosa Parks Elementary School
  • Roy Clark Elementary School
  • Sand Springs Early Childhood Center
  • Kendall-Whittier EduCare
  • A Third Place Community Center, Turley
  • Laura Dester Shelter
  • Day Center for the Homeless
  • Youth Services
  • Neighbor for Neighbor Heart Intervention Program
  • East Central Village, Tulsa Housing Authority
  • Bedlam Longitudinal Clinic
  • Six Bedlam Evening Clinics (Primary Care, Dermatology, Surgery, Allergy, Optometry, Pharmacy)
