OKLAHOMA CITY -- The state primaries are just a day away and a new SoonerPoll shows which candidates are leading the race.

The gap on the Republican side for governor has closed 12 points since January, but the latest SoonerPoll still shows Mary Fallin winning the primary outright with 56 percent of the vote.

"Mary Fallin was effective in being able to communicate enough that she was conservative enough for the electorate, the Republican primary electorate. That's the reason why she'll probably win by 30-35 points," said Bill Shapard with SoonerPoll.

The opposite holds true for the Democrats. Drew Edmondson has turned a close race into a 49-33 percent lead over Jari Askins. She will need the 18 percent still undecided to break heavily her way.

"She will probably benefit the most from those particular votes...she might catch him. But I think it would be a very rare event," Shapard said.

SoonerPoll also gauged the Republican race for Lt. Governor. Todd Lamb leads John Wright by 17 points, but 65 percent of voters say they still don't have a favorite.

"It shows this is a down ticket race. People know even less about who the candidates are. I don't want to say they don't necessarily care less, but they're just less engaged," Shapard said.
