OKLAHOMA CITY -- It was a $30,000 baby shower paid for with the Oklahoma standard and plenty of donations to help the families of our hometown heroes.

Seventy expecting wives of military members attended a baby shower that was put together especially for them. Operation Homefront's first Great Expectations baby shower was born so that moms-to-be wouldn't have to feel so alone while their loved ones served overseas.

"Just want them to understand that they're a bunch of ladies in similar situations, and we're all here to support them," said Carol Herrick, Operation Homefront Oklahoma president.

Belinda Boone is a new mother to be. Boone said she has worries as she waits for her first bundle of joy.

"You don't ever dream of worrying about your husband being deployed or not when you're having a baby, but you deal with what you're given," Boone said.

Beyond the baby boutique and bags of goodies, Boone said she found support from other people who understand her situation best.

"We're all excited to get things, but I don't know a whole lot of people here aside from the people in church, so it's really nice to meet other army wives," Boone said.

Operation Homefront hopes to have an even bigger baby shower that'll be twice the size next summer.
