D.A. Says Representative Involved in Corruption Probe Won't Appear Before Grand Jury

OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma state representative accused in a political corruption probe will not have to appear before a multicounty grand jury, according Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater.

Prater launched a political corruption investigation in June after allegations surfaced that Rep. Randy Terrill conspired with Senator Debbie Leftwich to give up her senate seat so Christian could run for it, and in exchange, Leftwich would get a high-paying position with the Medical Examiner's office.

A multicounty grand jury was set to meet this month, but Prater said due to budget reasons and a lack of available witnesses, he and the Attorney General's Office have decided it would be "more fiscally responsible to push the presentation of witnesses to the August setting."

Prater also said no one has been cleared of wrong doings in the corruption investigation. However, because of his full cooperation with the investigation, Christian will not have to appear before the grand jury.

"I'm pleased to confirm that I am no longer a subject of the Multi-County Grand Jury investigation," Christian stated in a press release Friday. "I maintained from the beginning that I did nothing wrong and I am grateful this is now behind me."
