OKLAHOMA CITY-- Oklahomans, who voluntarily give blood through the Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI), will now have a new place to donate.

The new donor center is just one block south of Oklahoma Blood Institute's flagship donor center and headquarters in Oklahoma City. Yet, it represents major advances in providing a ‘donor-centric' environment.

It is designed with the comfort of blood donors in mind. Windows line the donor area to give them an exterior view to a landscaped plaza. The open, spacious design allows staff to visit with donors throughout their donation.

The new 47,493-square-foot building also houses Oklahoma Blood Institute's administrative offices, a 2,500-square-foot conference center and approximately 16,000 square feet of rentable space located on the prime, Oklahoma Health Center campus.

In addition, a special setting is available for donors giving marrow or blood stem cells. These donors have been matched to a person in need of their life-saving marrow or stem cells. The donation process, called peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) donation, is similar to whole blood donation.

An expanded area is also available for patients who need therapeutic aphaeresis treatments.

The grand opening ceremonies will be held on 901 N.E. Lincoln Boulevard, the northwest corner of N.E. 8th Street and Lincoln Boulevard in Oklahoma City.
