OKLAHOMA CITY -- A family from Moore said they are thankful to be alive after their truck caught fire over Memorial Day weekend, and they said they owe everything to a fellow Oklahoman who stopped to help.
Danuiel Pate was driving home from a weekend at the lake when he saw flames in his rearview mirror. As Pate tried to extinguish the fire, Shane Cohea pulled over and helped get Pate's family to safety. Within minutes, flames took over the truck and the motorcycles in the back of the truck exploded.
"It was awful seeing all our belongings burn. We carried everything with us because we've been robbed recently and don't like leaving important stuff at home. Even our wedding rings were destroyed," Pate said.
Pate said he considers Cohea a hero for helping him keep his family safe.
"I'm just glad I was there to help. Looking at them is like looking at my own family. We have a daughter the exact same age, and it turns out they even share the same unique name, Camryn," Cohea said.
A fund has been set up to help the Pate family. Donations are being accepted at any MidFirst Bank under the account, Danuiel Pate.
