OKLAHOMA CITY -- A resolution adopted by the state Senate would create the Oklahoma Music Trail to boost tourism and economic development in the state.
The Senate passed the resolution on Wednesday. It suggests that a group of music historians and scholars develop an inventory of the most notable musical sites in Oklahoma that would be of interest to the public.
The measure's author, Sen. Earl Garrison of Muskogee, says Oklahoma has a rich musical history filled with award winning song writers and singers. Garrison says creating a trail with sites highlighting their lives, careers and achievements would honor their creativity and contributions.
Specific locations on the Music Trail will focus on musicians born in the state or who spent a substantial part of their musical career in Oklahoma.
