ENID, Oklahoma -- Authorities say more than 100 headstones were damaged in several cemeteries in northwestern Oklahoma over the weekend.

Ames Cemetery Association President Craig Bymaster said Monday between 75 to 78 stones were tipped over and others were damaged at the Ames Cemetery.

Bymaster said the vandalism occurred sometime late Sunday. He says the Major County Sheriff's Office has been contacted but a dollar-estimate of the damage wasn't available yet.

Garfield County Undersheriff Jerry Niles says 48 headstones were vandalized at the Del Norte Cemetery south of Drummond. Waukomis police are investigating damage done to six headstones at Waukomis Cemetery.

Niles says the vandals likely struck Sunday night. He says the sheriff's office also would contact the Major County Sheriff's Office.
