OKLAHOMA CITY -- Crews started pouring the foundation for the new home of Devon Energy Sunday morning. About 65 trucks were circulating back and forth between the concrete plants and the site off of Sheridan Avenue.

The concrete pour was scheduled on Sunday to minimize the impact on downtown businesses and traffic and was expected to last for about 15 hours.

It was a spectacle that made residents and out-of-towners stare in shock and surprise.

"I'm not from here so it's real interesting to see it going on," said Anita Grantz.

Grantz wasn't the only curious onlooker taking a peek at the meticulous plan.

"The new truck backs into the slot and begins to feed the pumpers. It really takes on the choreographed shape," said John Wood, Hines Vice President. "We're placing about 6,500 yards of concrete that weighs about 26 million pounds. It's a huge amount of concrete."

The foundation will be 12 feet thick so it can support the building's 50 floors. That will make it the tallest tower in Oklahoma City, almost twice the height of the Chase building.

"It's the beginning of new growth and we hope there will be many many more activities generated by what we're doing here," said Klay Kimker, Devon Energy Vice President of Administration.

"I took a lot of pictures of it. I hope it turns out. It'll be nice, interesting souvenir," Grantz said.

The concrete pour was expected to be done by midnight, but construction won't be over until December of 2012.

There's a camera catching the progress brick by brick, watch it here.
