MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- A Spencer woman was killed early Saturday morning when she was run over by her attacker's car. Her attacker is still at-large.

According to Midwest City police, a witness was driving north on Marshall Drive near East Douglas Drive around 1 a.m. Saturday when she saw 26-year-old Nelly Ann Pelts struggling with a man on the west side of the roadway.

Police said the witness stopped her car in the street as Pelts was apparently trying to escape her attacker by running towards the witness. At that point, the suspect got into his car and ran over Pelts with his car and fled the area.

"The victim and the suspect were in a physical confrontation when the witness drove up. Of course, she tried to do what she could and provide some assistance," said Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes.

Pelts was pronounced dead at the scene, and investigators are actively working the case.

The suspect is described as a stocky, white male in his 40s with short light or gray hair, and was last seen driving a tan or champagne colored "box type" older model four-door vehicle. The suspect's car should have minor damage to the left front portion from hitting witness's vehicle, police said.

The news of Pelts' death has devastated the victim's family.

"I am still trying to deal with the fact she's gone. I keep thinking she's gonna walk through that door because it doesn't seem possible," said Cheera Taylor, Pelt's sister-in-law.

Pelts family said they are not sure why she was out in that area so late. However, they said she did just start working as a substitute for a Sunday school class at the Christ Gospel Church right across the street from where she was attacked.

Pelts was known as a quiet person who often kept to herself, her family said. She didn't have any known love interests or any enemies, and that has left Pelts' family desperate to know who could have killed her.

"If you look at her, you can tell she's a good Christian girl. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body. She's never done anything wrong in her life," Taylor said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Midwest City Police Department at 405-739-1306 or 405-739-1388.

This is Midwest City's third homicide this year.
