EDMOND, Oklahoma -- An Edmond-based charity continues to raise money to help Haitian earthquake victims, and now the founder is getting some support from local homebuilders.
Water is Life produces special straws for $10 each that offers clean water for an entire year. To date, Water is Life has raised more than $55,000 through donations, but now local homebuilders want to help that number jump way up.
Brent Wilson is hoping to lure in homebuyers in hopes of bringing some much needed help to earthquake victims in Haiti. The part time homebuilder, full time physician said he saw an opportunity to help earthquake victims and decided to jump on it.
"After the events that happened in Haiti and everything we saw, the turmoil going on in there and the lack of water they have knowing Ken Surritte and his vision with Water is Life, my partner and I thought it would be a great opportunity for us to sell our homes we have here and give all the proceeds to Water is Life," Wilson said.
Surritte said 6,300 straws are in route to Haiti, but more are needed. The homes for sale could open the door for numerous people in Haiti.
"That could really supply water for a lot of people," Surritte said.
Wilson and his business partner are donating the profits of three homes to Water Is Life. The homes will be open to the public February 13th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. All three homes are in Bella Terra, off Waterloo in Edmond.
