OKLAHOMA CITY – Interstate 44 is reopen after a 35-car pileup in southwest Oklahoma City.

Wrecks, icy conditions and fog wreaked havoc on the early morning commute for the metro area.

Northbound lanes on Interstate 44 were shutdown after the 6 a.m. wreck near S.W. 149th Street by the Canadian River Bridge.

Paramedics said five people were transported to the hospital. No serious injuries were reported.

Authorities say the wreck was caused by ice on the bridge. Several slick spots were reported in the Oklahoma City metro area this morning. Snow on the side of the roads melted yesterday and froze on the bridges overnight.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is reporting that icy conditions caused a multicar pileup at the Fort Smith Junction as well. No injuries were reported and the roadway has been cleared.

Oklahoma City police say fog contributed to a fatal wreck on Mustang Road.

William Riefer, 57, was travelling northbound on Mustang Road when a southbound vehicle crossed over the line and hit Riefer's car head-on, police said.

Both drivers were transported to OU Medical Center, where Riefer later died.

The other drive is in stable condition, police said.
